Nestled within the enchanting grounds of Villa Monastero in Varenna, Italy, Bar Villa Monastero is a delightful café that offers a unique blend of stunning scenery and Italian charm. While the location provides a breathtaking backdrop of lush gardens and serene lake views, the experience at the bar has elicited a mix of admiration and critique from visitors.

The café is a charming stop for those strolling through the historic grounds of Villa Monastero. Many customers appreciate the atmosphere created by the sweeping views of Lake Como and the beautifully manicured gardens around them. Described as a perfect place to unwind, it invites visitors to take a moment to savor their surroundings.

However, it's essential to approach your visit with realistic expectations. One of the most notable points from customer feedback highlights a disconnect between the elegance of the location and the presentation of the offerings. For instance, Krzysztof Dzbanski expressed disappointment when he received drinks served in plastic cups, which starkly contrasted with the splendid ambiance of the villa. It’s a reminder that even the most beautiful settings can have their quirks.

On a brighter note, many patrons have enjoyed the delicious offerings from the bar, particularly praising the authentic Italian coffee and sophisticated cakes. Max Cuggi highlighted the tasty, albeit slightly pricey, pastries that complemented his coffee beautifully. The cheerful service provided by the staff adds a warm touch to the experience, making guests feel welcomed as they relax amidst breathtaking views on a sunny day.

Ultimately, while Bar Villa Monastero may have areas needing improvement, it remains a worthwhile stop for those exploring Villa Monastero. Sipping on a classic Italian coffee or indulging in a freshly made cake while surrounded by the timeless beauty of Varenna could create simply unforgettable moments. Just be prepared for a casual setting that may contrast with the historical elegance that surrounds it. Whether you're here to fuel your day of exploration or take a well-deserved pause, the café offers a glimpse of Italian hospitality amidst spectacular scenery.

While the gardens of Villa Monastero are absolutely stunning and well worth a visit, I strongly advise avoiding the bar/restaurant located within the grounds. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. Despite the elegant and historic surroundings, drinks were served in plastic cups, which felt completely out of place in such a beautiful location. Coffee in a flimsy plastic cup is simply not acceptable at these prices, and the beer was not only served in plastic as well, but the portion was noticeably smaller than it should have been. Prices were extremely high, which might have been understandable in a refined, well-managed venue — but the reality was far from it. The service was more reminiscent of a cheap roadside bar than a place within one of Lake Como’s most picturesque gardens. The staff were inattentive and disorganised, which only added to the frustration. It’s a real shame, as the setting is truly magical and deserves a far better level of service. To anyone planning a visit: enjoy the gardens, take in the views, but skip the bar. It’s overpriced, poorly managed, and frankly, the use of plastic cups in such a setting is a disgrace.

Spectacular location, tasty authentic cakes ( a bit pricy, but fresh and sophisticated ) , great Italian coffee. Friendly and smiling service ladies. Great place to have a sitting pause. Access only for the persons inside the villa
